Theft cases need a high amount of preparation and scrutiny.
In some cases, the defendant may have simply forgotten to pay
because they were distracted. Of course, it’s our job to prove
that.
Similar to fraud charges, theft is divided into two
categories:

Theft over $5,000. This indictable offence
results in up to 10 years in prison.

Theft under $5,000. The Crown can choose
to impose an indictable offence, which results in up to two
years in prison, or a summary conviction, which results in
up to six months in prison and/or a maximum fine of
$5,000.
